Upper Thames Clinic Closure Notice

July 29th 2023

Dear valued clients,

I am writing to let you know of an important upcoming change to Upper Thames Mobile Vet Services. These changes are largely due to a large animal veterinary shortage and lack of support for on-call and emergency services, especially for less common species of animals.

As you can imagine, being a solo veterinarian and being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year is not sustainable for a single person to handle.  When the clinic initially opened there were several options for emergency coverage but those are no longer available.  I have made all efforts and attempts to seek out help and coverage for those hours to give myself a break, however with a heavy heart the decision has been made to close the doors on the practice for the time being.

This unfortunately does mean that the continued delivery of veterinary services for your animals will be affected moving forward.

However, our mobile clinic is merging with an existing local small animal clinic in Woodstock. The goal of this merger is to offer comprehensive and expanded in-clinic services for unique and exotic companion animals in the future. More details on the opening date and on the list of species serviced are to come in early 2024.   We will be able to offer x-rays, ultrasound, hospitalization, soft tissue and dental surgery and laser/physiotherapy.

As part of this transition, Upper Thames Mobile Vet Services will close Monday October 30th 2023 and will not provide veterinary care for your animals after this date.  All clients will need to seek veterinary services with a different veterinarian after this date.

  • Please contact us for routine or emergency care needs for your animals before October 30th 2023.  Reach out to us now to schedule a consultation to create a transitional care plan for your animals ahead of this major change.
  • Please consider stocking up on vaccines, medications, supplies and treatment protocols for your animals now.
  • The following 3 documents are uploaded to the “news” section of our website to assist with the transition:
  1. Veterinary resources/treatment protocols/husbandry guidelines
  2. Recommended medication stocking lists for first aid kits
  3. List of veterinary clinics to contact for care

We empathize that this news is disruptive and distressing, we are here to support you the best we can. We believe that taking a pause now will allow us to build a lasting and sustainable veterinary care option for your unique animals for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paisley Canning
